Character Counts Project

Each year, EGS spends the months of April and May doing a character project.  Students learn about the six pillars of character which include:  responsibility, respect, caring, trustworthiness, citizenship, and fairness.  Each week focuses on a different pillar.  During that week, students will learn about what it takes to have that characteristic by a school-wide intercom announcement by Mrs. Vink, the counselor.  Also, posters are in the hallways and in each classroom teaching students about the trait.  Classroom guidance lessons on the character traits are also incorporated by the counselor.

During each week of the project, students, faculty and staff can nominate anyone in the school that they believe has exhibited that character trait.  At the end of each week, several names will be drawn from those nominated.  They will receive a prize.  All nominees will also have their names displayed in the hall by the particular character trait they were recognized for.  Also, every nominee will receive a certificate.

We believe this will be a fun learning activity for students and staff alike, as well as a way to help our students continue to develop and recognize excellent character.
